Travel More - Art Journal Page

Hola crafty peeps,

Many of you have asked me on how to make art journal pages, what to use, how to use! So to end all your misery I thought of doing a step by step tutorial for you all to watch and learn. I started art journaling only recently myself so i am gonna share all that I know with you all.

Since my goal for this year is to travel more and wander into nature as much as I can, therefore, I thought of representing it in the best way I know which is mixed media. here are some close ups -

So let's dive into the tutorial!

Hope you liked the simple process of making this journal page and are inspired to create one of yours as well. Do tag me in your journal pages I would love to see them.

Altered Hoop

Hola crafty people,

We are already half way through the first month of the new year and I have something really fun for you to create. Over so many years, people have shared their versions of altered hoop and here is mine! A mixed media altered hoop steampunk style.

I used natural cord and created a mesh to support all my chipboard and metal embellishments. I covered it with black gesso and then adhered my chippies and metal embellishments using heavy body gel. I used some buttons and art pebbles to add dimensions. Once satisfied with the layout, I covered everything with a coat of black gesso again.

Next I colored with IMMIX metallic paints from Expressions craft. I only used two colors and dry brushed them. To brighten up the project I also dry brushed with white gesso.
Here are some close up looks!

Hope you liked this new creation. Stay tuned for many more mixed media inspirations this month. Leave a comment and let me know if you want me to create something.

Until Next Time,
XOXO

Mixed Media Layout | Celebrating Life

Heya crafty people,

Are you all set for another inspirational project? Today I have for you a clean and simple mixed media layout. When we think of mixed media layout we generally end up making the layout full of textures and paints and embellishments. Today, I took the liberty of breaking that chain and creating something very simple.

This project is created for this month's challenge inspiration post for Expressions Craft Studio as a DT member by me. This month's theme is Celebration and for me it meant celebrating my life!

My life has been my biggest teacher this year. I have seen the lowest low of my life and then fought back to be where I am today. So today, I take this opportunity via this inspiration post to celebrate my life and urge you to do so as well. Take out time for your own-self and celebrate it, celebrate yourself and your life!

I used some chalk paints matching the image I chose and added them with my finger in a triangular shape.
I then covered areas with washi tape. Next I used stencils and made numbers using archival ink and finger dauber. Finally i did some stamping here and there and added the beautiful roses along with sentiment stickers.

Here are detailed images!

Hope you liked this inspirational project and will create your own. Also, don't forget to participate in the ongoing challenge at Expressions Craft here

Until next time,
XOXO

Mixed Media Treasure Chest

Hola crafty peeps,

I am back with yet another mixed media project for you all. This time I have altered a MDF box into a beach theme treasure chest. This project was made for Expressions Craft's monthly challenge  inspiration as one of their design team members.

I have used very simple techniques in creating this. I used lots of seashells and a few handmade paper clay starfishes. Going with the mood-board, I have used teal and rust colors for my project. So without further wait, let's dig in!

Step 1 - Cover the box with white gesso first and then add black gesso on all the edges.

Step 2 - Cover all the black gesso areas with crackle texture paste and let it dry naturally. Apply a mix of thick and thin layer of crackle texture paste.

Step 3 - Once dried completely, Using the stencil of your choice and crackle texture paste, make designs on all four sides of the box.

Step 4 - Once all the crackle paste is dried, adhere all beach elements & deco art stones using heavy body gel medium and let dry. After the elements have stuck properly, cover everything with white heavy gesso. (I added a layer of medical gauge on top of the box before adding my elements.)

Step 5 - Color the box base in teal color and all the elements in rust color. I added a lil bit of yellow as well to make the transition of the colors look real.

Let's get a closer look!

Hope you like the project! Do tag me in your creations if you are inspired by this one. And lastly, do not forget to participate in the ongoing challenge at Expressions Craft studio here.

Until next time
XOXO

Altered Ornamental Frame

Hola crafty peeps,

Today I am here with yet another mixed media alteration for you all.
I received a beautiful MDF ornamental frame in my Prika DT kit last month and have been wanting to alter it since. So here it is finally done!

A lot of trying and testing happened on this cute little frame before I finally settled with these gorgeous colors. Since it was a simple MDF cutout, I used prima moulds to add ornamental dimension to it. I used IMMIX crackle texture paste for the amazing background layer on it.

I covered everything up in black gesso and then experimented with metallic colors from prima. I finally settled with dark velvet, gold rush and hints of fuchsia pink. I topped it all with some prima waxes in the colors mystic turquoise and rose gold.

On the right hand-side I added an old metal frame from my stash and some clay embellishments. I then decorated it with some rose buds and a pearl string.

While on the left hand-side, I added some metal leaf embellishments (covered in black gesso and topped with metallique waxes), rose flowers, buds and leaves.

Finally, I added some art stones colored in gold metallic color along with a small quote to bring it all together.

Making this shabby frame was too much fun for me as I got to experiment a lot. If you are inspired create something of your own do tag me in the pictures and share your love.

Until next time
XOXO

JK
